Doula is a Greek word meaning "woman's servant"

Bed-rest Support

Care will be provided to a mother who has been placed on bed-rest due to complications of her pregnancy.  Caring, non-judgmental, non-medical support is available by a trained care giver to help the pregnant mother with daily household tasks, meals, doctor's visits, shopping, child care, and nursery organization.  Most importantly we provide emotional support, companionship, and guidance.

Birth Doulas

The birth doula is a professionally trained labor support companion, who will offer continuous non-medical support during labor, help with emotional needs, and provide information, physical comfort and suggestions to the laboring woman and her companion.  She does not replace the partner/labor supporter; instead she gives ideas for how the partner can be more supportive and gives positive feedback to the partner for the support he/she is giving.  She will also help the birth mom with the first breastfeeding experience after the baby's birth.  The birth doula does not give medical advice or administer any medical procedures.

Postpartum Doulas

The postpartum doula is professionally trained to assist the new mother by taking care of daily household tasks, breastfeeding support, meal preparation, running errands, baby care/sibling care, and most importantly by providing up- to- date information, emotional support, and guidance.  While muti-tasking, the postpartum doula remains caring, empathetic and non-judgmental.  The postpartum doula does not give medical advice or administer any medical procedures.  The postpartum doula works hourly.  Overnight doula care is also available.

Breastfeeding Support

A trained breastfeeding support specialist will come to the postpartum family home and provide caring, non-judgmental support to the new mom with breastfeeding information, assistance with latching, and most importantly by providing emotional support and guidance. Referrals to lactation specialists in the area are available.

We set up a mutually agreeable schedule

and understand that needs may change.
